Welcome
This site is a tribute to Frank Bastable (1924-2003) and Thelma Bastable (1927-1982).
Like most people, Frank and Thelma led quiet unassuming 'ordinary' lives. But to those of us who knew them, they were unique and unforgettable, both separately and as a couple.
Thelma could truly be said to be one of the world's best mothers. Her primary concern was always for her husband and children but her unwavering love and support extended to everyone she cared for, and they were many. Even in the last months and weeks of the illness that claimed her life at the relatively early age of 55, the welfare of those she loved was always uppermost in her mind.
Frank, who survived his wife by over 20 years, maintained his innate curiosity and wonder at the complexities of the physical world. Nothing 'useful' ever escaped his need to conserve and rebuild. His sense of humour was legendary. Local jumble sales and boot fairs will not be the same without him.
